1. Understand their profession: Gain a basic understanding of the legal profession and the responsibilities that come with being a lawyer. This will help you support and appreciate their work.

2. Respect their time: Lawyers often have demanding schedules, so it’s important to be patient and understanding when scheduling dates or planning activities together.

3. Be a good listener: Encourage your partner to talk about their day and the cases they’re working on. Show genuine interest in their work, as this can be an excellent opportunity to bond and learn more about them.

4. Learn about their field of law: Research the nuances of your partner’s specific field of law, such as criminal defense, family law, or corporate law. This will give you both something to discuss and help you better understand the challenges they face.

5. Develop a thick skin: Lawyers are trained to argue and debate, so don’t take it personally if they challenge your viewpoints or engage in an intellectual discussion.

6. Be supportive during high-stress times: Offer emotional support during high-stress periods like trials or deadlines by offering encouragement, lending a listening ear, or giving them space as needed.

7. Create opportunities for relaxation: Stay tuned into your partner’s stress levels and find ways to help them unwind after a long day, such as going for a walk in the park or offering a massage.

8. Develop common interests: Find activities that you both enjoy outside of work, like hiking, cooking classes, or attending art shows. This will give you both something to look forward to beyond work-related conversations.

9. Maintain open communication: Establish strong lines of communication from the start to address any concerns you have about dating a lawyer, like potential scheduling conflicts or feelings of neglecting your relationship.

10. Be prepared for legal jargon: Get familiar with common legal terms as conversations might occasionally involve some legal jargon. Familiarize yourself with basic concepts to make it easier to follow and participate in discussions.

11. Attend legal events together: Show interest in their work by accompanying your partner to legal events or networking functions where you can both meet other legal professionals.

12. Keep your relationship private: Don’t discuss the details of your relationship with others, especially if they are connected to the legal profession. Lawyers are often cautious about maintaining a professional image.

13. Be independent: Maintain your interests, career, and social life outside of the relationship, so you don’t rely solely on your partner for fulfillment.

14. Understand the importance of confidentiality: Respect the boundaries around client confidentiality by not pressing them for details about their cases.

15. Be patient and flexible: A relationship with a lawyer requires patience and flexibility due to their unpredictable schedules. By being understanding and accommodating, you’ll create a strong foundation for a healthy and lasting relationship.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
