If you’re using Windows 10, you’ve probably noticed that when you download something, it automatically goes to your Downloads folder. But what if you’d rather save your downloads to a different location, such as an external hard drive or a specific folder on your PC?

Fortunately, changing the default download location in Windows 10 is easy. In this article, we’ll show you how to do it step-by-step.

Step 1: Open the Settings App

To start, open the Settings app by clicking on the Start button and selecting the gear icon at the bottom left-hand side of the menu.

Step 2: Go to the ‘System’ section

Once in the Settings app, scroll down and select the ‘System’ section.

Step 3: Select ‘Storage’

Under the System section, select the ‘Storage’ option from the left-hand side menu.

Step 4: Click on ‘Change where new content is saved’

At the top of the Storage section, you’ll see an option that says ‘Change where new content is saved’. Click on this to begin changing the default download location.

Step 5: Change the default download location for each content type

Once you’ve clicked on ‘Change where new content is saved’, you’ll see a list of different content types, such as Apps, Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. For each type of content, you can choose to save it to a different location by clicking on the dropdown menu and selecting ‘New drive’.

Alternatively, you can select ‘New folder’ and choose a specific folder on your PC or external hard drive to save your downloads to.

Step 6: Save your changes

After you’ve made your desired changes, click on the ‘Apply’ button at the bottom of the window to save your new download location settings.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully changed the default download location in Windows 10.

By following these simple steps, you can easily save your downloads to a different folder or external hard drive, and keep your Downloads folder clutter-free.
