As a Mac user, you might have noticed that Safari is the default browser on your system. Safari is a robust browser and definitely has its fans. However, if you prefer using a different browser, you can easily change the default browser on your Mac. In this article, we’ll go through the process of changing the default browser on a Mac.

Before we get started, let’s quickly go over which browsers are popular with Mac users. The most popular browsers, aside from Safari, are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. Each of these browsers has its own features, interface, and speed. You can choose the browser that works best for your needs.

Now, let’s dive into the steps you need to follow to change the default browser on a Mac:

Step 1: Download and Install the Browser

Before you change the default browser on your Mac, you first need to have the browser you want to use already installed on your system. If your preferred browser is not installed on your Mac, you can download it from the browser’s website and install it.

Step 2: Open the Safari Browser

Once you have installed the browser of your choice, you will need to open the Safari browser on your Mac. Then click on the “Safari” menu from the top menu bar and select “Preferences.”

Step 3: Choose the Default Browser

In Safari’s preferences window, click on the “General” tab. From there, select the dropdown option for “Default web browser.” You will see a list of installed web browsers on your Mac. Choose the browser that you want to set as your default.

Step 4: Confirm Your Choice

After selecting the browser you want to use as your default, you will need to confirm your choice. To confirm, simply close the preferences window by clicking on the red “x” button in the upper left corner of the window.

Step 5: Enjoy Your New Browser!

Congratulations! You have successfully changed the default browser on your Mac. Now, whenever you click on a link, your chosen browser will open automatically.
