Baking hockey skates is a process that allows the skate to mold comfortably to your foot, providing better support and reducing break-in time. Here are 11 steps to help you achieve the perfect fit!

1.Preheat your oven: Set your oven to about 175°F (80°C) and allow it to preheat thoroughly.

2.Prepare your skates: Loosen the laces on your hockey skates, making sure they can slide all the way up and down easily.

3.Protect your blades: To prevent damage or scratching on your oven surface, cover the skate blades with a cloth or towels.

4.Take safety precautions: Always wear gloves when handling heated skates to protect yourself from burns.

5.Heat the skates: Place the hockey skates onto a baking sheet or pizza stone, maintaining distance between them to ensure even heating. Place them in the preheated oven for approximately 6-8 minutes.

6.Monitor the heat: Keep an eye on the skates while they are in the oven—do not leave them unattended. The aim is for the skate material to become soft without overheating.

7.Remove from the oven: Carefully, using gloves, remove the heated skates from your oven.

8.Put on your skates: While wearing socks that you’ll use during gameplay, put on your heated hockey skates as quickly as possible.

9.Lace them up snugly: Fasten the laces snugly, but not too tightly—make sure there is no bunching of socks or excessive tension with an adjustment room for comfort.

10.Allow them to cool while wearing: Sit still with your feet flat on the ground for approximately 15 minutes, allowing the skate material to mold around your feet’s contours.

11.Storage and maintenance: Once you’ve completed the baking process and allowed the skates to cool completely, unlace them and store them as you normally would. Be sure to check for any gaps or pressure points before hitting the ice the first time.

And that’s it! By following these 11 steps, you will have baked your hockey skates to achieve a more comfortable and adapted fit. Enjoy your time on the ice with increased stability and control, thanks to your perfectly molded skates!

Please note, baking your skates multiple times is not advisable; it may damage the integrity and support structure of the skate. Always refer to your skate manufacturer guidelines or consult with a knowledgeable pro shop representative for specific advice.
