How to Appear Offline and Invisible on Facebook and Messenger

Are you tired of getting bombarded with messages and notifications on Facebook and Messenger? Do you wish to take a break from social media but want to maintain your privacy? Well, there’s good news! Facebook offers a way to appear offline and invisible to your friends on both platforms.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Disable Active Status on Facebook: This feature will enable you to appear offline on both Facebook and Messenger. To do this, click on the “Settings” option in the drop-down menu and navigate to “Active Status.” Toggle the switch to “Off,” and voila! You are now offline.

2. Turn off chat on Facebook: While the Active Status feature will leave a green dot next to your name, turning off chat will make it impossible for friends to message you. Click on the “Settings” option in the drop-down menu and navigate to “Privacy.” Select “Turn off chat” and choose either “Turn off chat for all friends” or “Turn off chat for specific friends.”

3. Appear offline on Messenger: If you want to appear offline only on Messenger, here’s how you can do it. Launch the app and tap on your profile picture in the top left corner. Scroll down to find “Active Status” and tap on it. Toggle the switch to “Off,” and you’re done!

4. Use third-party apps: Some third-party apps can help you appear invisible on Facebook and Messenger. These apps can log you out of both platforms without actually signing you out of your account. Some popular apps include the “Invisible Chat for Facebook” and “Ghostbot for Messenger.”

5. Limit your online activity: This is probably the most effective way to appear invisible on Facebook and Messenger. If you don’t want to chat or comment on posts, simply stay away from the platform for a while. You can also set aside some hours in the day specifically for social media use.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
