Introduction:

Adding a downloadable PDF to your WordPress site can be useful for sharing valuable content and resources with your audience. This guide will walk you through the process of adding a downloadable PDF to your WordPress site, so you can provide extra value for your readers.

Step 1: Upload the PDF File

1.Open your WordPress Dashboard.

2.Navigate to Media > Add New.

3.Click the “Select Files” button and browse for the PDF file on your computer.

4.Once you locate the file, select it and click “Open” to upload it to your website.

Step 2: Copy the PDF File URL

1.After uploading the file, you will see a thumbnail preview on the Media Library page.

2.Click on the thumbnail preview of your uploaded PDF.

3.In the right-hand pane, locate and copy the “File URL.”

Step 3: Create or Edit a Page/Post

1.You have two options here – either create a new page or post or edit an existing one in which you want to add the downloadable PDF link.

2.If creating a new page or post, go to Pages > Add New or Posts > Add New from your WordPress dashboard.

3.If editing an existing page or post, navigate to “All Pages” or “All Posts” from your dashboard and look for the respective page or post.

Step 4: Insert Downloadable Link

1.In the Gutenberg editor (used by default in WordPress), click on the plus (+) icon and search for either “Button” or “File.”

2.If using Button block, give it an appropriate label (e.g., “Download PDF”) and paste the copied File URL in the provided field.

3.If using File block, insert it by clicking on it, then click “Insert from URL” button and paste the copied File URL, and change the setting to “Download button(s).”

Step 5: Save Your Changes

1.Once you have added the download link using either the Button or File block, click on “Publish” (for new pages/posts) or “Update” (for existing pages/posts) to save your changes.

Conclusion:

Adding a downloadable PDF to your WordPress site allows you to share engaging content with your audience in a user-friendly manner. With these easy steps, you can offer valuable downloadables that not only satisfy your readers but also contribute to making your site more comprehensive and resourceful.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
