In recent years, keyless car fobs have become increasingly popular for their convenience and ease of use. However, this modern technology also comes with security risks. Thieves are using signal relay attacks and other methods to exploit keyless entry systems. To help you safeguard your keyless car fob and keep your vehicle secure, here are nine steps you can follow:

.Use metal shielding: Enclose your car fob in a metal container or specially designed Faraday pouch that blocks radio signals. This will prevent thieves from intercepting the signal between your fob and your car.

.Keep your fob away from exterior walls and windows: By storing your keyless fob away from accessible spots like doors or windows, thieves are less likely to capture the fob signal to gain access to your vehicle.

.Switch off the keyless function: Some car manufacturers offer the option to disable the keyless function on your fob when not in use. Check your owner’s manual for steps on how to enable or disable this feature.

.Use a mechanical lock: Adding an additional layer of security, such as a steering wheel lock or tire lock, can act as a deterrent for criminals targeting keyless vehicles.

.Install an aftermarket immobilizer: Invest in an immobilizer that interrupts the vehicle’s power supply if it detects unauthorized access and doesn’t receive the proper key code.

.Park in well-lit areas: Avoid parking in dimly lit areas where it’s easier for thieves to tamper with your vehicle unnoticed. Opt for secured parking facilities that have cameras and proper lighting whenever possible.

.Be aware of suspicious activity: Stay alert to potential threats near your vehicle, such as people hovering or loitering around cars in parking lots.

.Routinely update software: Ensure that cart manufacturers’ latest software updates are installed on your vehicle’s systems to guard against vulnerabilities that hackers could exploit.

.Maintain a relationship with your local dealership: Stay informed about any security issues related to your vehicle by maintaining regular contact with your dealership. They can provide advice and necessary updates to combat potential risks.

In conclusion, while keyless car fobs offer unmatched convenience, they also come with inherent security risks. By following these nine steps, you can better protect your vehicle and ensure the continued safety of your keyless entry system.
