Ford’s latest innovation in hands-free driving technology, BlueCruise, is making waves in the automotive industry. Developed by the leading carmaker, the BlueCruise feature enables drivers to enjoy a more comfortable, safer, and ultimately, more enjoyable driving experience. Here is a deep dive into how the technology works.

BlueCruise is designed to enable hands-free driving on divided highways in the United States and Canada, courtesy of its advanced camera and radar systems combined with precision mapping technology. It leverages Ford’s intelligent adaptive cruise control and lane-centering technology to automatically steer, accelerate, and brake the vehicle while staying within the lane.

The system uses a combination of GPS, LiDAR maps, and high-resolution cameras to provide precise and accurate positioning data, which helps the vehicle to navigate the road accurately. The cameras detect lane markings while the LiDAR maps provide detailed information about the road ahead, such as curves, inclines, and exits.

One of the standout features of BlueCruise is its eye-tracking technology, which ensures driver safety even when the system is engaged. The technology senses when the driver is distracted or falling asleep and alerts them to regain control of the vehicle. This feature is designed to help prevent accidents caused by drivers who may be tempted to take their eyes off the road while using the autonomous technology.

Ford has emphasized the importance of driver convenience in the BlueCruise technology, which is why it can be easily accessed through the steering wheel’s dedicated button located on the left side of the steering wheel. Additionally, it comes with over 100,000 miles of highway coverage- Ford’s most accurate mapping system ever developed, ensuring that drivers can feel at ease when using the technology. The company has also ensured that the BlueCruise system is designed to complement and not replace, drivers, and their decision-making capabilities.
