How Android Doze Works to Optimize Battery (And How to Disable It)

Android Doze is a power-saving feature introduced by Google back in 2015 with Android Marshmallow. This feature allows devices to save battery by going into a deep sleep state when the device is not being used. In this mode, the device will completely stop network access and other background activities, saving a great deal of battery life in the process. However, this feature isn’t suitable for everyone, and some users may want to disable it. In this article, we will discuss how Android Doze works to optimize battery and how you can disable it.

How Android Doze Works to Optimize Battery

Doze is designed to conserve battery life by drastically reducing the number of background processes and network access happening on your device. This feature activates automatically when the device is stationary or not moving for a certain amount of time. Once it’s triggered, the device goes into a deep sleep mode, where it stops almost all background processes, including network access.

The way Doze saves battery life is by significantly reducing the amount of time your phone’s CPU is active, which in turn reduces the amount of energy that’s consumed. The Doze mode does not affect incoming calls or alarms from waking up the device, so you don’t have to worry about missing an important call or alarm when in this mode.

For Doze to work effectively, you need to ensure that the device is not being used, and the screen is turned off for a certain amount of time. Also, it’s worth noting that Doze mode will only activate when your phone is not being charged or if the battery is not full.

How to Disable Android Doze

While Doze mode is useful for conserving battery life, it may not be ideal for some users, especially those who want to receive notifications and other updates in real-time. If you’re one of these users, you can disable Doze mode by following the steps below:

Step 1: Go to Settings on your Android device

Step 2: Tap on “Battery” to open the battery settings

Step 3: Tap on the Menu icon (the three horizontal lines in the top right corner of the screen)

Step 4: Tap on “Battery optimization.”

Step 5: Tap on the “All apps” dropdown menu and select “Don’t optimize.”

Step 6: Find any app you want to disable Doze mode for and toggle off the switch.

Keep in mind that disabling Doze mode can cause your battery to drain faster than it would when using the feature. With that said, if you’re a heavy phone user and need to receive notifications and updates in real-time, disabling Doze may be the way to go.

Conclusion

Android Doze is a useful feature that can help you save a lot of battery life when your device is not being used. If you’re looking to conserve battery life or want to make sure you’re not bothered by notifications when not necessary, then leaving Doze on is ideal. However, if you want to receive real-time updates, you can easily disable Doze mode as shown above.
