DisplayPort 2.1 is the latest version of the DisplayPort technology that is used for ultra-high-definition video and audio transmission. This new version offers a range of exciting features and benefits that can enhance the performance of displays and consumer electronics devices.

Here are some important things you need to know about DisplayPort 2.1:

Higher Data Transfer Rate

DisplayPort 2.1 delivers four times the data transfer rate of the previous version, with a maximum bandwidth of 80 Gbps. This means higher resolutions and faster refresh rates. It also enables the use of larger displays with more pixels, such as 8K.

Support for HDR

DisplayPort 2.1 supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, which enhances the brightness, contrast, and color accuracy of video displays. This feature enables a more immersive viewing experience, with vivid and lifelike colors.

DSC 1.2a Compression

Display Stream Compression (DSC) is a feature that enables high-quality video transmission over a limited bandwidth. With DisplayPort 2.1, DSC 1.2a compression technology is available, which allows for higher resolutions and refresh rates without compromising on image quality.

Multi-Stream Transport

DisplayPort 2.1 supports Multi-Stream Transport (MST) technology, which allows multiple video and audio streams to be transmitted over a single cable. This feature enables the use of multiple displays with a single DisplayPort output, including daisy-chaining multiple devices.

Backwards Compatibility

DisplayPort 2.1 is compatible with previous versions of the DisplayPort standard. This means that devices that support earlier versions of DisplayPort technology can still connect to DisplayPort 2.1 devices and use their features. However, devices that do not support DisplayPort 2.1 may not be able to take full advantage of its features.
