Introduction:

Disney has a long-standing tradition of offering not only excellent entertainment, but also unforgettable gastronomic experiences. Among its signature dishes, the legendary Monte Cristo Sandwich stands out as one of the most beloved and sought-after treats. Recently, Disney shared the recipe for this famous sandwich with fans who are eager to recreate the magic at home.

History of the Monte Cristo Sandwich:

The Monte Cristo Sandwich has its roots in the French “Croque Monsieur”, a delicious ham and cheese sandwich that made its debut in France around 1910. Over time, various adaptations have been made and resulted in the creation of the unique version that Disney serves today. The sandwich has been enjoyed by guests at Disneyland’s Blue Bayou Restaurant and Café Orleans since they opened their doors in 1967.

Ingredients:

To make a Disney-style Monte Cristo Sandwich, you will need these ingredients:

1. Sliced turkey

2. Sliced ham

3. Swiss cheese

4. White bread slices

5. All-purpose flour

6. Water

7. Vegetable oil or canola oil

8. Three eggs

9. Egg Breadcrumbs

Instructions:

1. To start, make a batter by mixing all-purpose flour, water, and eggs in a bowl until smooth.

2. Assemble your sandwich by layering sliced turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese between two slices of white bread.

3. Dip the entire assembled sandwich into this batter mixture, making sure to fully coat every corner.

4. Once the sandwich is evenly coated in the batter mixture, gently cover it with egg breadcrumbs.

5. Heat vegetable oil or canola oil in a deep-fryer or large heavy-duty saucepan to 375°F(190°C).

6. Carefully lower the battered sandwich into the hot oil using a slotted spoon or wire skimmer to avoid splashing.

7. Fry each side of the sandwich for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Be mindful not to overcrowd the pan, as this can lower the oil temperature and result in a soggy sandwich.

8. Once both sides turn golden brown, remove the sandwich from the hot oil and drain well on paper towels.

9. Allow it to cool for a moment before slicing diagonally into two halves.

Serving Suggestions:

Pair your freshly cooked Monte Cristo Sandwich with a refreshing side salad or crisp pickles and enjoy it with a fruit preserve or whole-grain mustard as a dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

With the generous sharing of their recipe, Disney has delighted fans around the world who can now create a little bit of that magical experience in their own kitchens. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the Disneyland Monte Cristo Sandwich or trying it for the first time, preparing one at home is an exquisite way to bring Disney’s love for fantastic food into your everyday life.
