Introduction:

Cannoli, a delicious and classic Sicilian dessert, has won over the hearts of many worldwide. With its crisp shells filled with rich, creamy filling, it’s no wonder people crave this Italian masterpiece. If you’re looking to perfect the art of making homemade cannoli that’ll rival even the best pastry shops, look no further. We have the ultimate cannoli recipe for you!

Ingredients:

Cannoli Shells:

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

– 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

– 1 egg yolk

– 1/2 cup sweet Marsala wine (or substitute dry white wine)

– Vegetable oil, for frying

Cannoli Filling:

– 2 cups whole milk ricotta cheese, drained overnight

– 3/4 cup powdered sugar

– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

– 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions:

Preparing the Cannoli Shells:

1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt.

2. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Stir in the egg yolk and gradually add the Marsala wine, mixing until a soft dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about five minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.

5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for about an hour.

6. Divide the rested dough into four equal parts and work with one part at a time, keeping the rest covered.

7. Roll out each section of dough on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 1/8-inch thick.

8. Cut out circles using a 4-inch round cutter and wrap each circle around a metal cannoli tube, sealing the edges with a dab of water.

9. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (180°C). Carefully lower the cannoli tubes with the dough into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, turning occasionally.

10. Carefully remove the tubes from the oil using tongs and let them cool on a paper towel-lined plate for a minute or two. Gently slide the shells off the tubes while they’re still warm but cool enough to handle, and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.

Preparing the Cannoli Filling:

1. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the drained ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.

2. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips.

3. Cover and refrigerate the filling for at least an hour to allow it to set.

Assembling the Cannoli:

1. Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each cooled cannoli shell with the chilled ricotta filling from both ends.

2. For an added touch of perfection, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top or dip each end into mini chocolate chips or chopped pistachios.

Serve your homemade cannoli immediately for maximum enjoyment! Buon appetito!
