Introduction:

Air fryers have transformed the way we cook our favorite fried foods, offering a healthier and more convenient alternative compared to traditional deep frying. One such dish that is perfect for air frying is the famous blooming onion. This irresistible appetizer, with its crispy petals and juicy center, is not only visually pleasing but also incredibly delicious. In this article, we share the best air fryer blooming onion recipe, so you can impress your family and friends with this fantastic dish.

Ingredients:

– 1 large sweet onion

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs

– 2 large eggs

– 1/2 cup milk

– 1/2 cup water

– 1 tablespoon paprika

– 1 tablespoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

– Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce Ingredients:

– 1/2 cup mayonnaise

– 1/4 cup ketchup

– 2 tablespoons horseradish sauce

– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the onion by first peeling it and cutting off approximately half an inch from the top. Be sure to keep the root end intact.

3. Turn the onion upside-down, then cut it into even wedges (approximately half an inch wide), stopping just before reaching the root.

4. Gently separate the layers of the onion using your fingers, creating a blooming shape.

5. In a shallow plate, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if desired), salt, and pepper.

6. In another shallow plate, whisk together the eggs, milk, and water.

7. Place the breadcrumbs in a separate shallow plate.

8. Dip the blooming onion petals first into the flour mixture, then into the egg wash, and finally into the breadcrumbs. Ensure all petals are thoroughly coated during each step.

9. Gently transfer the breaded blooming onion to your air fryer basket.

10. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. If necessary, use a teaspoon of oil spray to prevent sticking.

11. While the onion is cooking, prepare the dipping sauce by mixing together the mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.

12. Once cooked, carefully remove the blooming onion from the air fryer and place it on a serving dish.

13. Serve the air fryer blooming onion alongside the dipping sauce and enjoy!

Conclusion:

This scrumptious air fryer blooming onion recipe is an excellent option for those looking to prepare a delicious appetizer without resorting to unhealthy deep-frying methods. The combination of flavors from the spices and dipping sauce creates an addictive taste sensation that your taste buds will thank you for! So grab your air fryer and give this recipe a try – you won’t be disappointed!
