How to Unblock Things Locked by OpenDNS

OpenDNS is a popular security tool that blocks websites and other online content that may be deemed harmful or inappropriate. However, sometimes it can block websites that you actually need access to.

This can be frustrating for users who need access to certain websites or online resources for work or other purposes. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to unblock things locked by OpenDNS.

Step 1: Check if OpenDNS is the issue

The first step is to check if OpenDNS is actually the reason for the blocked website or online resource. You can do this by trying to access the website on a different device, or by checking if the website is blocked on a different network.

If the website is blocked on all devices and networks, it is most likely being blocked by OpenDNS. If it is only blocked on a specific device or network, check if there are any other security tools or settings that may be causing the block.

Step 2: Disable OpenDNS

If you determine that OpenDNS is the cause of the block, the next step is to disable it temporarily. You can do this by changing the DNS settings on your device.

1. Go to your device’s network settings
2. Look for the TCP/IP settings or DNS settings
3. Change the DNS server settings to a different DNS server, such as Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1)

Once you have changed the DNS server settings, try accessing the blocked website again. If it works, then OpenDNS was the issue.

Step 3: Change OpenDNS settings

If you need to access the website regularly or on multiple devices, it may not be practical to disable OpenDNS every time. In this case, you can change the OpenDNS settings to allow access to the website.

1. Log in to your OpenDNS account
2. Go to the Dashboard and click on the Settings tab
3. Under Web Content Filtering, click on the Customize button
4. Add the website or URL to the Allow list
5. Save the changes

Once you have added the website to the Allow list, you should be able to access it without any issues.

Conclusion

OpenDNS is a great security tool that helps keep you safe online, but it can sometimes block websites or online resources that you need access to. By following these steps, you can unblock things locked by OpenDNS and regain access to the websites you need.
