Falling from a significant height can be a terrifying experience, but with the right moves and techniques, it’s possible to survive such a fall. Here are 12 essential steps to help you make it through a potentially life-threatening fall.

1. Stay Calm: Panicking will only make the situation worse. The more relaxed and focused you are, the better your chances of reacting appropriately during the fall and landing safely.

2. Orient Yourself: Determine which way is up and which way is down. This will help you position your body correctly to minimize injuries upon impact.

3. Protect Your Head: Tuck your chin into your chest to avoid hitting your head upon impact. Doing so will help reduce the risk of serious head injuries.

4. Bend Your Legs: Keep your knees slightly bent, with your feet hip-width apart when falling feet first. This position will help you absorb some of the shock upon impact.

5. Go Limp: Try to relax your muscles, as rigid limbs may break or suffer more severe injuries upon impact.

6. Aim for Soft Ground: Try to aim for a patch of soft ground such as grass, dirt, or sand to help absorb some impact force and reduce injuries.

7. Use a Makeshift Parachute: If available, use a large piece of fabric or clothing as an improvised parachute to slow your descent and give you some control over your trajectory.

8. Break Your Fall: If possible, try grabbing onto something like a tree branch or railing to slow down your descent before hitting the ground.

9. Roll on Impact: Upon landing, tuck and roll with the force of the impact to disperse it across your body rather than a single point.

10. Get Medical Attention ASAP: Even if you don’t feel hurt immediately after the fall, it’s crucial to seek medical help as soon as possible in case of internal injuries.

11. Stay Positive: A positive attitude can go a long way in helping you survive a fall and recover from the physical and emotional trauma.

12. Learn from the Experience: Use this experience as a lesson to become more cautious and avoid similar situations in the future.

With these 12 steps in mind, you’ll be better prepared to survive a long fall and minimize the potential life-threatening injuries that can come with it. Remember, staying calm, assessing your surroundings, and knowing how to position your body can make all the difference.
