Martin Scorsese is one of the most influential directors in the history of cinema, with a career that spans over five decades. His movies are known for their enthralling storytelling, dynamic characters, and innovative cinematography. Here’s a list of the 8 best Martin Scorsese movies that have left an indelible mark on film history.

.”Goodfellas” (1990) –Often hailed as one of the greatest films ever made, “Goodfellas” is a riveting crime saga that delves into the lives of New York gangsters. The film is known for its sharp dialogue, memorable performances, and its realistic portrayal of mob life.

.”Taxi Driver” (1976) –This psychological thriller features Robert De Niro in one of his most iconic roles as Travis Bickle, a disturbed taxi driver who becomes obsessed with saving a young prostitute, played by Jodie Foster. The film’s dark exploration of loneliness and violence in urban America has earned it critical acclaim.

.”Raging Bull” (1980) –A raw and powerful biographical film based on the life of boxer Jake LaMotta, “Raging Bull” is notable for its brutal fight scenes and De Niro’s intense performance, which earned him an Oscar.

.”The Departed” (2006) –Winning Scorsese his first Academy Award for Best Director, “The Departed” is a gripping crime drama about an undercover cop and a mole within the police force who try to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in Boston.

.”Casino” (1995) –Revisiting the mob genre, “Casino” tells the story of two friends running a mafia-controlled casino while struggling with power struggles, murder, and betrayal.

.”Gangs of New York” (2002) –Set in the mid-19th century in the Five Points district of New York City, this epic historical drama details the world of gangs at the time and showcases Scorsese’s ability to recreate historical periods with acute attention to detail and narrative drive.

.”The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013) –Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort’s rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life and his subsequent fall involving crime, corruption, and the federal government; this black comedy-drama is both controversial and entertaining.

.”Shutter Island” (2010) –A psychological thriller that will keep you guessing till the end, “Shutter Island” examines themes of perception versus reality through the story of two U.S. marshals investigating a mysterious disappearance in a mental institution on an isolated island.

These films not only showcase Martin Scorsese’s diverse directorial talents but also his consistent ability to challenge audiences while creating cinematic masterpieces that remain relevant years after their release.
