The Adirondack Mountains in New York State are a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat. As we look ahead to 2024, here are the six best towns to visit in this majestic region:

1. Lake Placid – This picturesque town is a hub for winter sports and was the host of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Lake Placid continues to embody the Olympic spirit and offers activities year-round, from hiking to ice skating on the famed Olympic Oval.

2. Saranac Lake – Known as the “Capital of the Adirondacks,” Saranac Lake boasts a rich history of healing and wellness. Its charming downtown area is punctuated by art galleries, shops, and cafes, while the surrounding wilderness calls for adventure.

3. Old Forge – Old Forge is considered the gateway to the Adirondacks and is especially popular during the summer thanks to Enchanted Forest Water Safari, New York’s largest water theme park. The town also serves as a base for countless hiking, boating, and camping expeditions.

4. Keene Valley – Often referred to as the home of High Peaks Wilderness, Keene Valley attracts hikers aiming to summit Mount Marcy, New York’s highest peak. The town itself radiates quaintness, with local farm-to-table restaurants and cozy inns that offer warm hospitality.

5. Tupper Lake – Tupper Lake combines natural beauty with scientific exploration at The Wild Center, which includes outdoor trails, a treetop walk called the Wild Walk, and interactive exhibits on local ecosystems. This family-friendly destination encourages hands-on learning and conservation education.

6. North Creek – North Creek thrives as both a ski destination in winter with Gore Mountain nearby, and a springboard for rafting excursions on the Hudson River Gorge during warmer months. The town also has a notable history with railroads which can be explored at the North Creek Depot Museum.

Travelers seeking an authentic Adirondack experience will find these towns perfect destinations for adventure, relaxation, and cultural exploration in 2024.
