Inductors are passive electronic components that consist of a coil of wire wound around a magnetic core. They are widely used in electronic circuits for filtering, energy storage, and signal processing. Here are five applications of inductors that you should know about.

1. Power Supplies

Inductors are used in power supplies to reduce voltage ripple and smooth the output voltage. They are also used to filter out high-frequency noise in power supplies. Inductors are often used in combination with capacitors to create a low-pass filter that can remove high-frequency noise.

2. Audio Equipment

Inductors are used in audio equipment for crossover networks, which separate high-frequency and low-frequency signals in speakers. They are also used in tone control circuits to alter the frequency response of an amplifier. Inductors allow the user to adjust the bass or treble of the audio output.

3. Radio Frequency (RF) Filters

Inductors are used in RF filters to select or reject specific frequencies. RF filters are used in radio, television, and communication systems to prevent unwanted signals from interfering with the desired signal. Inductors are used in combination with capacitors to create resonant circuits that can selectively block or pass certain frequencies.

4. Sensors

Inductors can be used in sensors that detect changes in magnetic fields. For example, magnetic sensors can be used to detect the presence of metal objects or to measure the position of a robot arm. Inductors are also used in proximity sensors to detect the presence of nearby objects.

5. Voltage Regulators

Inductors are used in voltage regulators to reduce the ripple in the output voltage. Voltage regulators are used to maintain a constant output voltage in electronic circuits. Inductors can be used in combination with capacitors to create a low-pass filter that can remove high-frequency noise and smooth out the output voltage.

In conclusion, inductors play an important role in many electronic circuits. They are used for filtering, energy storage, and signal processing. Understanding the applications of inductors is crucial for any electronics engineer or hobbyist who wants to design and build electronic circuits.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
