4 Ways to Show Desktop on a Mac
Navigating the Desktop of a Mac can be incredibly intuitive once you learn the ins and outs. Among these features is the ability to quickly show your Desktop without having to minimize all your open applications one by one. Here are four ways you can instantly view your Desktop on a Mac:
1. Use Mission Control
The Mission Control feature gives you an overview of all open windows, but it can also help you access your desktop easily. Simply swipe up on the trackpad with three fingers, or press the F3 key (or Control + Up arrow) to activate Mission Control, then move your cursor to the top-right corner of the screen to find a highlined area labeled ‘Desktop’. Once you click on this area, all your windows will slide off to the sides, revealing the Desktop.
2. Use Hot Corners
Hot Corners are a brilliant feature that triggers certain actions when you move your cursor to one of the corners of your screen. To set it up, go to System Preferences > Mission Control > Hot Corners… and then select an action for each corner. Choose ‘Desktop’ for one of the options. Once done, any time you move your cursor to that corner, all open windows will temporarily slide away to show the desktop.
3. Use the ‘Show Desktop’ Gesture
For a touchpad gesture that directs you straight to your Desktop, spread your thumb and three fingers apart on the trackpad. This will clear away all open applications off to the sides, neatly revealing your workspace.
4. Keyboard Shortcut
Finally, there’s a keyboard shortcut that’ll do the trick: press Command (⌘) + F3 (may require Fn + F3 on some keyboards). This is a quick and easy method if you’re more comfortable with traditional keyboard shortcuts.
Each of these methods offers a unique convenience depending on what you’re doing at that moment and how you like to navigate within macOS. Quick access to your desktop can make managing files and finding what you need much simpler when multitasking or when your screen is crowded with applications. Try them out and see which one suits your flow best!
