3 Ways to Remove a Stuck Glue Stick Cap

Glue sticks are a staple in every office, school, and home. They offer convenience and ease when it comes to sticking paper, cardboard, or any other lightweight material together. However, there can be one frustrating problem that many glue stick users encounter: a stuck cap. It’s quite common for the cap of a glue stick to become jammed due to dried glue or improper storage. In this article, we will explore three simple techniques to remove a stubborn glue stick cap.

1. Warm Water Soak

The first method involves using warm water to soften the dried glue that’s causing the cap to be stuck. Here’s how you can do it:

– Fill a bowl with warm water (make sure it’s not too hot as it can melt the plastic).

– Submerge the glue stick’s cap end in the water.

– Let it soak for at least 5 – 10 minutes.

– Gently twist and pull the cap while holding the glue stick firmly.

– If the cap doesn’t come off easily, repeat the process until successful.

2. Use a Rubber Grip

Another approach to remove the stuck cap is by using a rubber grip or rubber gloves that provide extra friction. This method works well if there isn’t too much dried glue causing the problem.

– Put on rubber gloves or get a rubber jar opener (or a rubber band if you don’t have either).

– Firmly hold the glue stick with one hand.

– Use your other hand to grasp the cap with your rubberized grip.

– Apply force while twisting and pulling up on the cap gently.

– The added friction should enable you to remove the stuck cap without much effort.

3. Combine Baking Soda and Vinegar

If you have tried both previous methods without success, a solution of baking soda and vinegar might provide the necessary power to loosen up dried glue.

– Mix equal parts of baking soda and vinegar in a small bowl (enough to cover the cap area).

– Apply the mixture to the stuck cap using a cotton swab or small brush, focusing on the edges where the cap meets the glue stick.

– Leave it on for 10 – 15 minutes to let the reaction work its magic.

– Wipe off any remaining solution before attempting to remove the cap.

– Grasp the glue stick firmly and rotate the cap gently, applying steady force as you pull.

With these three techniques in your arsenal, you’ll never have to struggle with stuck glue stick caps again. Remember to always replace the cap promptly after use and store your glue sticks in a cool and dry place to prevent this issue from recurring.
