Introduction:

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a milestone taxation system in India that has significantly streamlined the taxes levied on goods and services. As a business owner or taxpayer, it’s crucial to have your GST identification number (GSTIN) handy for various purposes like filing returns, claiming input tax credits, and complying with other regulatory requirements. In this article, we discuss three ways to find out your GST number quickly.

1.Check your Registration Certificate or Acknowledgement:

When you first register your business under the GST regime, you will receive a registration certificate issued by the tax authorities containing your unique 15-digit GST number. This alphanumeric code represents details about your state code, legal name, and PAN. You can locate this certificate in the email that you received upon successful registration or access it through the GST portal using your credentials.

2.Visit the GST Portal:

Head over to the official GST portal (gst.gov.in) and follow these steps to search for your GST number:

a.Click on the “Search Taxpayer” tab on the homepage.

b.Select “Search by GSTIN/UIN” from the drop-down menu.

c.Enter your PAN and click on “Search”.

d.The portal will display relevant information associated with your PAN, including your GST number.

Please note that to use this option; you need to know your PAN since it’ll be required for searching the GST number.

3.Use Third-Party Websites or Applications:

There are several websites and applications that facilitate searching for a business’s GST number by entering basic details like business name or PAN. These platforms make use of the API provided by the Indian tax authorities and deliver results swiftly without requiring access to sensitive information such as login credentials.

a) GSPs (GST Suvidha Providers): Reputed GSPs offer services, including searching for taxpayer information, like GST number, by providing PAN or a registered name.

b) GST rate finder apps: Mobile applications like the “GST Rate Finder” on Android provide the option to find your GST number using your PAN.

Conclusion:

By following any of these three methods, you can quickly find out your GST number and ensure that you remain compliant with the tax regulations in India. It’s crucial to have this information ready to avoid any penalties or complications related to your business’s tax filings.
