3 Ways to Feather Hair Around Your Face

Feathering hair around your face not only gives your hairstyle a softer, more delicate appearance but also enhances your facial features. This flattering technique can be achieved through various methods and styling tools. Here are three easy ways to feather your hair around your face, allowing you to experiment and find the perfect look for you.

1. Using Scissors

One way to achieve feathered hair around your face is by using a professional pair of hair-cutting scissors. If you’re unsure of how to do this, consult with a professional hairstylist first. For a DIY approach, follow these steps:

– Begin with wet or damp hair. This allows for greater control when cutting.

– Comb the hair thoroughly to remove any tangles.

– Take a small section of hair near the face and hold it between your index and middle fingers.

– Position your fingers at the desired angle (typically 45 degrees) and begin sliding them down the length of the hair towards the ends.

– Carefully cut along the edge of your fingers in a downward motion. This creates a soft, textured look that frames your face.

2. Using a Razor

A razor can provide an even softer feathering effect around your face than using scissors. It’s crucial to use a sharp razor specifically designed for cutting hair to avoid unnecessary damage.

– Start with wet or damp hair and comb it thoroughly.

– Hold a small section of hair near the face between your index and middle fingers.

– Angle your razor at 45 degrees and gently slide it down the length of the hair from top to bottom.

– Be cautious not to apply too much pressure, as this can result in overly thinned or uneven feathering.

3. Using a Curling Iron

For those who prefer not to cut their hair or seek temporary feathering rather than permanent changes, using curling iron is an option worth considering.

– Dry and comb your hair, ensuring it’s free of tangles.

– Section off the front pieces of your hair that you want to feather around your face.

– Using a small or medium-sized curling iron, clamp the sections of hair at a slight angle near the roots (facing away from your face).

– Slowly drag the curling iron down the length of your hair while turning it outward.

– Once you’ve curled all sections of hair, gently brush through with a wide-tooth comb to soften the feathered effect.

Whether you decide to use professional scissors, a razor, or a curling iron to achieve a feathered look around your face, remember that practice makes perfect. Don’t be afraid to try different techniques and experiment with various styles until you find the one that suits you best.
