.Research: Thoroughly research the record labels that specialize in your music genre. Make a list of these labels, and be sure to focus on those that are known for signing new artists.

.Tailor your pitch: Each record label is unique, so it’s crucial to tailor your pitch accordingly. Make a note of each label’s preferences, interests, and submission guidelines to increase your chances of being noticed.

.Prepare a press kit: Create a professional and engaging press kit that includes your music samples, biography, photos, and any press coverage or notable accomplishments. This will serve as your introduction to potential record labels.

.Build an online presence: Before contacting record labels, it’s essential to have a strong online presence that showcases your music and performances. This can include social media profiles, a website, and streaming platforms like Soundcloud or Spotify.

.Create an email list: Collect contact information for key people at each record label you’ve identified during your research. This can include A&R representatives, talent managers, or other decision-makers within the organization.

.Write a captivating email subject line: The subject line of your email should be attention-grabbing in order to stand out among other artists vying for attention from record labels.

.Draft an engaging email: In the body of the email, introduce yourself and briefly explain why you’re reaching out to the specific record label. Be clear about your goals and what you hope to gain from their partnership.

.Include links to your online presence: Include links to your website, social media profiles, and professionally recorded music samples in the email so that A&R representatives can easily access them.

.Follow up with a phone call: If you haven’t received a response after sending your email and waiting for an appropriate time (usually two weeks), consider following up with a phone call to ensure your materials were received and to reiterate your interest in working with the label.

.Attend industry events: Networking is key when attempting to contact record labels. Attend local music conferences, festivals, and other industry events to make connections with label representatives and other professionals in the field.

.Build relationships: Establishing a strong relationship with record label representatives can take time and effort, but it’s essential for increasing your chances of signing with the record label. Show genuine interest in their work and maintain communication with them, even if you don’t have an immediate need for their expertise.

.Remain persistent: Contacting record labels can be a challenging process that requires persistence and determination. Continue contacting targeted labels and submitting quality music samples until you find the right partnership. Remember that each rejection brings you one step closer to success.

By following these 12 steps, you will increase your chances of gaining attention from record labels and ultimately signing a contract to further your music career. Stay focused, determined, and keep refining your approach until you find the perfect match for your talents.
