3 Ways to Clean the Inside of a Washing Machine

A clean washing machine not only keeps your clothes fresh and smelling great but also ensures the longevity of your appliance. Over time, soap scum, dirt, and mineral deposits accumulate inside the drum and various other parts of the washing machine. Here are three simple yet effective ways to clean the inside of your washing machine

1. Using Vinegar and Baking Soda:

Vinegar and baking soda are natural cleaning agents that work wonders in eliminating odor-causing buildup inside your washing machine.

Step 1: Mix one cup of distilled white vinegar with one cup of baking soda.

Step 2: Set your washing machine to its hottest setting and pour the mixture into the detergent drawer. Run an empty load to let the solution do its magic.

Step 3: Once the cycle finishes, use a clean cloth or sponge dampened with vinegar to wipe down the drum, door seals, and detergent drawer. Be sure to remove any stubborn build-up or gunk that’s left behind.

2. Commercial Washing Machine Cleaners:

Another option is using a commercial washing machine cleaner specifically designed for deep-cleaning your appliance. These cleaners usually consist of pre-measured tablets or powders that dissolve during a hot wash cycle.

Step 1: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how much cleaner to use and where to place it in the washing machine.

Step 2: Set your washer to its hottest setting with no clothes inside, allowing the cleaner to break up residue and grime throughout the wash.

Step 3: When the cycle is complete, check whether there’s any remaining dirt or soap scum present. If necessary, repeat the process.

3. Lemon Juice:

Lemon juice is another natural cleaning agent that can help combat mineral deposits – especially in areas with hard water.

Step 1: Mix one cup of fresh lemon juice with two cups of hot water.

Step 2: Pour the solution into the detergent compartment, and set your washing machine to its hottest setting. Allow it to run an empty cycle.

Step 3: Once the cycle is complete, use a cloth dampened with lemon juice or vinegar to wipe down any remaining grime on the drum, door seals, and detergent drawer.

Remember that regular maintenance is key to keeping your washing machine in top condition. Incorporate one of these cleaning methods into your monthly routine to ensure optimal performance and prolong your appliance’s lifespan.
