2023 BMW iX M60 Review: Electric Excess, Not Necessarily the Best

The 2023 BMW iX M60 marks a significant milestone in the history of electric vehicles (EVs). As the first all-electric SUV from the BMW Group, it promises a potent combination of luxury, performance, and range. Despite its powerful promise on paper, is the iX M60 truly the best in its segment? Let’s find out.

Design and Exterior

Boasting a bold and futuristic design, the 2023 BMW iX M60 exudes a sense of electrified aggression. Its massive kidney grille, array of blue accents, and aerodynamically enhanced curvatures certainly make a statement. However, not everyone may appreciate its flashy appearance. More restrained customers might find themselves drawn to alternatives like the Audi e-tron or Tesla Model X.

Performance and Range

The BMW iX M60 features an impressive powertrain, with dual electric motors churning out nearly 610 horsepower. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4 seconds. The German automaker claims 395 miles (635 km) under the WLTP testing cycle, though real-world range will likely be somewhat lower.

The EV market has seen other high-performance cars like the Lucid Air Dream Edition and Tesla Model S Plaid which offer relatively similar performance metrics. Consequently, range enthusiasts might opt for more practical offerings with longer driving autonomy.

Interior and Technologies

Stepping into the cabin of the 2023 iX M60 takes you on a visual journey into an era where luxury meets sustainability. Plush fabrics rescue waste materials from landfills while exuding classiness. Its large panoramic glass roof adds an open feeling to the interior.
However, discerning customers might notice that other EVs—in particular, offerings from Tesla—might be providing more advanced technology. While promising constant software updates, it remains to be seen how the iX M60 will keep up with the competition.

Driving Dynamics and Handling

The iX M60’s sheer size and hefty weight affect its driving dynamics, but it still offers the well-known ride quality expected from a BMW. Nevertheless, enthusiastic drivers should not expect this electrified luxobarge to handle like one of the brand’s more nimble sport sedans.

Conclusion

The 2023 BMW iX M60 is undoubtedly a notable feat of engineering with its powerful all-electric heart wrapped in a package that seeks to emphasize both luxury and environmental consciousness. However, while it offers exceptional performance and an engaging driving experience, customers seeking more practicality, cutting-edge technology, or subtler design may find other alternatives within the EV realm more appropriate.

The BMW iX M60 is undoubtedly a remarkable electric SUV but is it the best? Perhaps that title depends on individual tastes and requirements. What the iX M60 does undeniably offer is an exclusive luxurious experience that only BMW can provide.
