10 Things You Should Be Doing Daily to Protect Your Eye Health

Maintaining optimal eye health is crucial for preserving your vision throughout your life. Here are ten daily practices you can incorporate to protect your eye health:

1. Wear Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from harmful UV rays by wearing sunglasses that block out 99 to 100% of both UVA and UVB radiation.

2. Eat Eye-Healthy Foods: Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet, particularly dark leafy greens and fish high in omega-3 fatty acids.

3. Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water can prevent dehydration, which may reduce the symptoms of dry eyes.

4. Take Screen Breaks: Follow the 20-20-20 rule; every 20 minutes, look away from your screen and focus on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

5. Practice Good Hygiene: Always wash your hands before touching your eyes or handling contact lenses.

6. Manage Chronic Conditions: Diseases like diabetes or hypertension can affect your eye health, so it’s essential to manage them with the help of a healthcare provider.

7. Adjust Lighting: Use proper lighting to avoid straining your eyes while reading or working.

8. Use Protective Eyewear: When engaging in sports or DIY projects, wear protective eyewear to shield your eyes from injury.

9. Get Regular Eye Exams: Even if you think you have perfect vision, regular eye exams can detect issues before they become serious.

10. Quit Smoking: Smoking increases the risk of age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and optic nerve damage—quit smoking to protect your eyes.

By integrating these simple practices into your daily routine, you will be taking proactive steps in maintaining healthy vision for years to come.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
