10 Clothing Items Not to Wear on a Plane

Traveling by plane means you’ll be sitting in a confined space for the duration of your flight, often sharing close quarters with other travelers. To ensure comfort and adhere to safety and practicality recommendations, there are certain clothing items you should avoid wearing. Here’s a list of 10 clothing items not to wear on a plane:

1.Tight Jeans: While stylish, tight denim can restrict circulation, which is especially concerning during long flights where the risk of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is present.

2.High Heels: They aren’t practical for moving quickly through large airports and pose a tripping hazard during turbulence or when evacuating a plane in an emergency.

3.Perfumed Apparel: Strong fragrances can cause discomfort or allergic reactions in enclosed cabin spaces, so clothing doused in heavy perfumes or scents is best avoided.

4.Offensive Shirts: Shirts with provocative graphics or language could disturb other passengers and possibly conflict with airline policies.

5.Complicated Lingerie: Intricate bras or corsets with metal wires can trigger security alarms or become uncomfortable over time; opt for seamless, wire-free options instead.

6.Large Metal Jewelry: Not only can they set off security detectors, but bulky metal necklaces or bracelets can also be uncomfortable to wear when trying to relax on a flight.

7.Flammable Fabrics: This one is more about safety – materials like nylon can be highly flammable, so it’s better to stick to natural fibers like cotton when flying.

8.Flip-Flops: They offer little protection and support. In the case of an emergency, closed-toe shoes are advisable for evacuations over potentially sharp or hot surfaces.

9.Contact Lenses: On longer flights, air quality can dry out the eyes making contact lenses uncomfortable; glasses are the more comfortable option for your eyes while flying.

10.Belted or Bulky Outwear: Bulky coats or belted sweaters take up valuable seat space and can make it hard to move comfortably in your seat – plus you’ll have to remove these items for security checks.

In summary, when dressing for air travel, prioritize comfort and safety over fashion, and consider how your wardrobe choices might affect those around you as well as ease of movement throughout your journey. Dress smartly!
