10 Awesome AR Apps for the Classroom

Augmented reality is quite literally changing the way we view the world and has found its way into several aspects of life. One of the most important of these aspects is education – AR is giving students a new point of view on their work and material, and is keeping them engaged in what they learn.

App developers have been creating educational AR apps since the technology was first invented, and it’s astonishing to see how far things have come. Let’s take a look at ten of these educational AR apps.

1. Experience Real History

ERH uses Reality Boards and cards in conjunction with the app to give students a unique insight into history, starting with the 1836 Alamo. The cards showcase important figures from different times, and when two cards are viewed through the app, the students can learn how the two individuals interacted.

2. Curiscope

Curiscope uses the Virtuali-Tee, a T-shirt embedded with a code, combined with the company’s app, to give students a look into the human body. They can explore all of the systems and understand anatomy on a deeper level.

3. 3DBear

This app lets educators and students create their own AR experiences by placing 3D models on reality. It is not specific to any subject or grade, and can be used throughout various disciplines. Teachers also get a few lessons to get things started.

4. Catchy Words AR

Catchy Words lets learners walk around their homes, classrooms, and more, to ‘catch letters.’ Once the letters have been caught, they can be arranged into a word. Perfect for kids struggling with spelling.

5. CoSpaces Edu

This creation app features both basic and pro levels that let educators create their own lessons for many grades and subjects. There are modes for novice and expert coders to allow for any level of AR sophistication.

6. Metaverse

Metaverse is another app that lets the user become the creator and allows one to develop experiences on storyboards that can be shared. It’s popular amongst teachers for creating scavenger hunts, quizzes, and more.

7. World Brush

With World Brush, learners are able to paint their ideas onto the real world and share their ideas with the class and other users.

8. Orb

Orb lets learners build upon the real world as though they were designing a set for a stage production. Their creations can also be shared with others through the app.

9. MoatBoat

This app allows learners and teachers to type or speak commands, which the app will then create.

10. Merge VR

Merge VR is not only limited to a classroom environment. It makes use of a headset and a unique MERGE cube to create and deliver AR experiences for anyone from the age of 10.

Why Should AR Enter the Classroom?

Augmented reality offers new and exciting opportunities for learning, mostly because it allows students to see things that are not possible in reality. You can bring dinosaurs into the class, explore 3D history models, and closely examine human anatomy.

While it might be more challenging to implement AR into a distance learning environment, it can be done with enough collaboration from students and learners. There is a lot to be learned from Augmented Reality that would otherwise be pretty difficult to teach in just everyday reality, making it such a valuable technology.

Wrapping Up

AR is a fast-growing technology, and everyday advancements are being made to shape the world around us and change our views on education, science, anatomy, and more. Perhaps in the future, Augmented Reality will become a core part of the education system.
