You Definitely Missed Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Epilogue’s Best (& Saddest) Story

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the latest additions to the Pokémon video game series, have captivated players around the world with their vast open-world adventure and the thrill of catching new Pokémon. However, amidst the excitement, many players have overlooked a poignant epilogue that offers one of the best and saddest stories in the franchise’s history.

After players become the champions and conquer the traditional challenges, the epilogue invites them into a deeply human story featuring their in-game friend Nemona. As it turns out, Nemona has been struggling with her confidence since childhood, always feeling overshadowed by her older brother who was considered a prodigy. As you journey together throughout the game, Nemona is a constant source of support and enthusiasm. Her cheerful demeanor and competitive nature light up every battle. Yet underneath that façade lies an unresolved struggle with self-worth.

The epilogue reveals this angst in heart-rendering detail through a series of intimate cutscenes where Nemona discusses her personal feelings about not being ‘the best.’ It’s a story that resonates strongly with anyone who has ever felt pressured by family expectations or their own ambitions.

This unexpected narrative depth is enhanced further by flashbacks showing Nemona as a child, where we see her internal turmoil beginning to form. The player must then help her come to terms with these feelings, solidifying their friendship in a quest that brings more emotional depth than most of the game’s main plot beats.

What makes this side story so impactful isn’t just its message about self-acceptance but also how it’s woven into the gameplay experience organically. Players don’t feel like they’re taking a detour from the main experience but rather uncovering another layer of a world they thought they knew.

In classic Pokémon fashion, there’s even a unique Pokémon battle reflecting Nemona’s inner conflict. The creatures chosen for this encounter are poignant symbols of her journey and our own struggles with inadequacy or imposter syndrome.

The epilogue is easy to miss but offers an insightful look into themes like acceptance and perseverance that extend far beyond Pokémon battles. It is undoubtedly one of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s greatest storytelling achievements – a small gem tucked away behind thrilling matches and Pokédex completions. For those who take time to explore it, the epilogue provides an emotional coda to an already engaging tale and stands as an important reminder that everyone’s story matters – even if they’re not always in the spotlight.
