Windowed, Fullscreen, and Borderless Modes: Which One Is Best?

Windowed, fullscreen, and borderless modes are the three popular display modes used in the gaming world. Each of these modes offers a unique experience, and choosing the right one depends on your preference and the game you are playing. In this article, we will take an in-depth look at these display modes and help you decide which one is the best for you.

Windowed mode

Windowed mode is the most versatile of the three modes. It allows you to multitask and switch between different applications and windows while gaming. When using this mode, the game window is displayed as a resizable window, and it can be moved around the screen to suit your preference.

One advantage of windowed mode is that it allows you to access other applications such as browsers, social media apps, and messaging apps without having to minimize the game. This mode is perfect for gamers who want to keep track of their chats, emails, or stream their gameplay to an audience.

However, when playing graphically intensive games, you may experience a drop in performance as the game’s resources have to be shared with other applications running in the background.

Fullscreen mode

Fullscreen mode is the most immersive way to experience a game. It takes up the entire screen, and the game’s assets and visuals are displayed to their best effect. In this mode, there are no distractions, and your focus is solely on the game.

The advantages of fullscreen mode are clear – it allows you to maximize performance as the game is the only application running on your system. This mode is great for gamers who want to experience the game to its fullest without any distractions.

However, switching out of fullscreen mode to access other applications may take time and interrupt your gaming experience. Also, fullscreen mode may not provide the best resolution if your screen resolution does not match your game’s resolution.

Borderless mode

Borderless mode is a hybrid mode that combines the advantages of both windowed and fullscreen modes. It displays the game window as a full-screen application but with no visible borders or window chrome. This allows for quick access to other applications, just like in windowed mode.

Borderless mode offers a seamless gaming experience, and it’s especially useful for gamers who want to multitask without any interruption. It also maximizes performance, just like fullscreen mode.

However, borderless mode may not be suitable for games with low performance or limited resolution settings. Some games may not support this mode, and others may experience compatibility issues with certain hardware and software.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the choice between windowed, fullscreen, and borderless mode comes down to personal preference and the game you are playing. Each mode has its advantages and disadvantages, and choosing the right one depends on your needs and specifications. When playing games, it’s important to experiment with different modes and find the one that suits your preferences and gives you the best gaming experience.
