The volume icon is an important feature on the Windows taskbar that enables users to adjust the volume of their computer’s sound output. However, some users have reported that the volume icon is missing from their Windows 10 taskbar, which can be frustrating. The good news is that there are several ways to restore the missing volume icon to the taskbar.

Method 1: Enable the Volume Icon from the Settings

The first method to restore the missing volume icon is through the Windows 10 settings. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Right-click on the Windows 10 taskbar and select “Taskbar settings”.

Step 2: Scroll down to the “Notification area” and click on “Turn system icons on or off”.

Step 3: Find the “Volume” option and slide the toggle to the “On” position.

Step 4: Restart your computer to see if the volume icon is now visible on the taskbar.

Method 2: Restart the Windows Explorer Process

If the first method does not work, you can try restarting the Windows Explorer process. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Press the “Ctrl + Shift + Esc” keys on your keyboard to open the Task Manager.

Step 2: Find the “Windows Explorer” process in the list and click on it.

Step 3: Click on the “Restart” button at the bottom right corner of the Task Manager window.

Step 4: Wait for a few seconds for the process to restart, and then check if the volume icon is now visible on the taskbar.

Method 3: Use the Windows Registry Editor

The Windows Registry Editor can also be used to restore the missing volume icon on the taskbar. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Press the “Windows + R” keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type “regedit” in the text field and press Enter to open the Windows Registry Editor.

Step 3: Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

Step 4: Find the “IconStreams” and “PastIconsStream” values, and delete them.

Step 5: Right-click on the taskbar and select “Task Manager”.

Step 6:
Click on “File” at the top left corner of the Task Manager window, and select “Run new task”.

Step 7: Type “explorer.exe” in the text field and press Enter to restart the Windows Explorer process.

Step 8: Check if the volume icon is now visible on the taskbar.

In conclusion, the volume icon is an important feature on the Windows 10 taskbar, and it can be frustrating when it goes missing. However, there are several ways to restore the missing volume icon, including enabling it from the settings, restarting the Windows Explorer process or using the Windows Registry Editor. Try these methods and see which one works best for you.
