Storage Sense is a relatively new feature introduced by Microsoft with Windows 10. It automatically manages your device storage by deleting temporary files and other unnecessary data to free up space. However, there may be times when you want to disable this feature for various reasons.

Here are some ways to disable Storage Sense on Windows:

Option 1: Turn Off Storage Sense in Settings

The easiest way to disable Storage Sense is by turning it off in the Settings app. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Open the Settings app by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Settings (gear icon).

Step 2: Click on System.

Step 3: From the left-hand side menu, select Storage.

Step 4: Under the Storage Sense section, toggle the switch next to Storage Sense to Off.

This will permanently turn off Storage Sense on your device.

Option 2: Disable Storage Sense Using Group Policy Editor

Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education users can use the Group Policy Editor to disable Storage Sense. Here’s how:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Step 3: In the Local Group Policy Editor window, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Storage Sense.

Step 4: Double-click on the Configure Storage Sense policy.

Step 5: Select the Enabled option and then choose the Off option from the drop-down menu.

Step 6: Click on Apply and then OK.

Exit the Local Group Policy Editor window, and Storage Sense will be disabled on your device.

Option 3: Disable Storage Sense Using Registry Editor

If you’re comfortable working with the Registry Editor, you can use it to disable Storage Sense on Windows. Here’s how:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type regedit and press Enter.

Step 3: In the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\StorageSense.

Step 4: Double-click on the 01 value.

Step 5: Change the value data from 1 to 0 and then click on OK.

Step 6: Exit the Registry Editor.

Storage Sense will be disabled on your device, and you can turn it on again by changing the 01 value from 0 to 1.
