Attention Illinois residents: Today marks the final day to qualify for income and property tax rebates in the state of Illinois. The deadline, which has been widely publicized by state officials, serves as a reminder of the importance of filing your taxes correctly and on time. This article will cover everything you need to know to determine if you’re eligible for these rebates and how to claim them before it’s too late.

The Income Tax Rebate

Illinois offers eligible taxpayers a rebate on their income taxes under certain conditions. To qualify for this rebate, you must meet all of the following criteria:

1. Be an Illinois resident for at least six months during the tax year.

2. Have a taxable income below $75,000 (individual) or $150,000 (jointly).

3. File your taxes on or before today’s deadline

If you meet these requirements, you may be able to claim a rebate worth up to 10% of your total state income tax liability. To claim this rebate, simply file your state tax return and follow the instructions provided.

The Property Tax Rebate

In addition to the income tax rebate, qualifying Illinois homeowners can also apply for a property tax rebate. To qualify for this rebate, homeowners must meet the following criteria:

1. Own and occupy their residence as their primary dwelling.

2. Pay property taxes on that residence.

3. Not have any delinquent property taxes or outstanding debts with local taxing bodies.

Qualified residents can receive a rebate worth up to 5% of their annual property tax bill, subject to certain caps based on household income levels.

How to Claim Your Rebates

For both income and property tax rebates, claiming is simple:

1. For the Income Tax Rebate: As previously mentioned, file your state tax return before today’s deadline and follow the instructions provided to claim your rebate.

2. For the Property Tax Rebate: Complete the online application form on the Illinois
Department of Revenue’s website no later than today’s deadline.

Time is running out, so make sure not to miss this opportunity to secure some much-needed financial relief. If you have any questions or concerns, consult the Illinois Department of Revenue’s website for detailed information, resources, and contact options. Don’t let today pass by without taking advantage of these beneficial tax rebates in the state of Illinois.
