Three of the Best Places to Visit in Europe by Sleeper Train in Winter

Europe’s charm doesn’t fade away with the summer; it transforms as the seasons change. There’s something magical about the continent as it wraps itself in a winter cloak, especially when it’s experienced from the comfort of a sleeper train. With snow-covered landscapes passing by and cozy sleeping compartments, a winter rail journey can be as much about the journey as it is about the destination. Here are three of the best places to visit in Europe by sleeper train in winter.

1. Vienna, Austria

The Austrian capital truly sparkles during the winter months with its Christmas markets, imperial architecture, and copious amounts of hot Viennese coffee. The sleeper train journey to Vienna provides travelers with breathtaking views, particularly if you embark from Zurich onboard the Nightjet. You’ll wake up to the sight of Austrian alps greeting you at dawn – an experience that’s worth the trip alone.

2. Venice, Italy

Many might not consider Venice a winter destination, but that’s exactly what makes it special. The city is less crowded in winter, giving a more authentic feel to your experience. You can start your memorable train voyage from Paris on board Thello’s overnight service to Venice. Imagine slipping through snowy landscapes before crossing into Italy where misty mornings add mystery and allure to Venice’s canals and palaces.

3. Stockholm, Sweden

Sweden’s capital is a winter wonderland and dazzles visitors with its beautiful snowy landscape during the colder months. Traveling by sleeper train on the Snälltåget service from Berlin gives you an eco-friendly travel option that adds adventure to your trip. The northern lights are potentially visible during parts of your journey when traveling overnight, which could be a once-in-a-lifetime sight from your cabin window.

Embarking on any of these journeys offers much more than just a destination; it offers an enchanting experience that starts the moment you board the train. Each city with its festive cheer, cobblestone streets lightly dusted with snow, and local culinary delights will enthrall travelers looking for a serene yet invigorating winter escape in Europe.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
