The Technology Behind Gran Turismo’s Realism

Gran Turismo’s reputation for realism is built on a foundation of cutting-edge technology and meticulous attention to detail. Let’s explore the key technological aspects that contribute to the series’ renowned authenticity.

Physics Engine

At the heart of Gran Turismo’s realism is its sophisticated physics engine. This complex system simulates various aspects of vehicle dynamics, including:

  • Weight transfer during acceleration, braking, and cornering
  • Tire grip and wear
  • Suspension behavior
  • Aerodynamics
  • Engine performance characteristics

The physics engine has evolved with each iteration of the game, becoming increasingly complex and accurate. In recent versions, it can even simulate the flex of a car’s chassis under load.
