For those who don’t know, Twitch is a live streaming platform that has become incredibly popular over the years. As the platform has grown, so too have the tools available to moderators, who are responsible for ensuring that streams stay safe, respectful, and fun for everyone involved.

To help moderators in their work, Twitch provides a long list of mod commands that can be used to manage the chat, protect users, and enforce community standards. Here’s a rundown of some of the most essential twitch mod commands.

/timeout [username] [duration]

This command is used to time out a user from the chat for a specified amount of time. The timeout duration can range from seconds to days, and is a tool used to manage individuals who are breaking the rules or causing a disturbance in the chat.

/ban [username]

This command is used to ban a user from the chat entirely. Banning is often reserved for repeat offenders or those who engage in particularly egregious behavior.

/unban [username]

This command is used to remove a ban from a user, allowing them to participate in the chat again.

/mod [username]

This command promotes a user to moderator status for the channel, giving them additional privileges to manage the chat and enforce community standards.

/unmod [username]

This command removes moderator status from a user.

/clear

This command clears the chat history, removing all messages from the chat window. This is often used when the chat is in a state of chaos and needs to be reset.

/host [channel name]

This command allows the moderator to host another channel’s stream on their own channel, effectively creating a “playback” of the other stream.

/unhost

This command ends the hosting of another channel’s stream.

/raid [channel]

This command initiates a “raid” of another channel’s stream, sending all of the moderator’s viewers to the target channel.

/unraid

This command cancels a raid and stops viewers from being sent to the target channel.

There are many other Twitch mod commands available, such as those for managing slow mode or adding custom chat rules. Knowing these commands can help moderators keep their channels running smoothly and ensure that everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience while using Twitch.
