OneNote is a powerful note-taking application from Microsoft that has become a go-to choice for users across different platforms. For Mac users, it’s now easier than ever to keep track of projects, create to-do lists, and jot down lecture or meeting notes on the go with OneNote.

In this essential OneNote for Mac guide, we’ll explore some of the key features of the application and share tips to help you make the most of it.

Getting Started with OneNote for Mac

To start using OneNote, you first need to download and install the app on your Mac. There are a few ways to get this done:

Option 1: Install OneNote from Microsoft Store

Open the Microsoft Store, search for OneNote, and click “get” to install the app. This method is recommended for those who prefer to keep their apps up to date automatically.

Option 2: Install OneNote from the Mac App Store

Open the Mac App Store and search for OneNote. Click “Get” to download and install the app.

Option 3: Download OneNote from Microsoft’s website

Navigate to Microsoft’s OneNote download page and click “Download OneNote for Mac.” The app will start downloading automatically.

Once you’ve finished installing OneNote, you’ll need to sign in with your Microsoft account. If you don’t have one, you can create one for free.

Create a Notebook in OneNote

OneNote organizes notes into notebooks, which are then divided into sections and pages. To get started with a new notebook:

1. Launch OneNote.

2. Select “File” and then click “New Notebook.”

3. A “New Notebook” dialog box will appear. Choose a name for your notebook, select the location where you want to save it, and click “Create.” You can also choose to password-protect your notebook to keep your notes safe.

4. Once you create a notebook, you can create new sections by clicking the “+” symbol to the right of the current notebook’s tabs. Then, click “New Section.”

5. Within each section, you can create pages by clicking the “+” symbol to the right of the current section’s tabs. Then, click “New Page.”

Create and Format Notes

To create a new note in OneNote, click once on the page and start typing. OneNote automatically saves your notes as you type, which means you don’t have to worry about accidentally losing your work.

OneNote has a range of formatting features that can help you organize and structure your notes. You can:

– Create bulleted or numbered lists by selecting the text and clicking the appropriate button in the formatting toolbar.

– Highlight text by selecting it and clicking the highlighter icon in the formatting toolbar.

– Change the font size, color, and style of your text using the formatting toolbar.

– Insert images and other media by selecting the “Insert” tab and choosing a media type.

– Create tables by selecting the “Table” tab and choosing the number of rows and columns you want.

Share and Collaborate

OneNote makes it easy to collaborate with others on your notes. You can share your notebooks with others by selecting “Share” from the “File” menu and choosing the appropriate sharing settings.

Once you’ve shared a notebook, others can access it from their own OneNote apps as long as they have permissions. You can also collaborate on notes in real-time by selecting “Share” and then “Invite People” to send an invitation link to others.

Stay Organized with Tags

OneNote offers a powerful tagging system that can help you categorize and organize your notes. Simply select the text you want to tag and click on the tag icon in the formatting toolbar. You can choose from a range of pre-defined tags or create your own.

When you’re looking for a specific note, you can search by tag using the search function in OneNote’s toolbar. This can help you find notes quickly based on their status or topic.

Final Thoughts

OneNote is a highly versatile note-taking app that integrates seamlessly into most workflows. Whether you’re a student, professional or freelancer, OneNote can help you stay organized and productive.

With this essential OneNote for Mac guide, you now have the knowledge you need to create and manage notes on your Mac, collaborate with others and stay organized using tags. Go ahead and give it a try, and see how OneNote can help you get more done in less time.
