The Best Way To Store And Reheat Leftover Fried Chicken

Leftover fried chicken can be just as delicious the second time around, provided it’s stored and reheated properly. Here’s the best way to preserve the taste and texture of your fried chicken:

Firstly, to store, allow the chicken to cool down. Never wrap it tightly or seal it in a container while it’s still warm, as this will cause condensation, sogginess, and may even promote bacterial growth. Once it’s at room temperature, place the chicken on a plate with a paper towel underneath – this helps absorb any additional moisture. If you have a lot of leftover pieces, you can stack them with paper towels between layers. Cover loosely with foil or plastic wrap before placing in the refrigerator.

For longer-term storage, you can freeze your chicken. Wrap each piece individually in foil or plastic wrap and then place them in a freezer bag or airtight container to freeze. This method can keep your fried chicken good for a few months.

When you’re ready to enjoy your leftovers, proper reheating is crucial for recreating the crispiness of freshly fried chicken. For those who want that fresh-out-of-the-fryer taste, here’s how to reheat:

• Oven Method:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the leftover fried chicken on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. This allows the hot air to circulate around the chicken, promoting an even reheat and helping maintain crispiness. Heat for about 15-20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re reheating from frozen, add more time and use lower heat (around 350 degrees) to ensure even heating.

• Air Fryer Method:

An air fryer is another excellent option for reheating fried chicken. The rapid air technology not only heats the chicken quickly but also helps crisp up the skin without drying out the meat. Set the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side.

• Toaster Oven:

This is more suitable for smaller quantities or single servings of chicken. Preheat your toaster oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and follow similar steps as you would using a full-size oven.

While microwave ovens are convenient, they’re not ideal for reheating fried foods as they tend to make them soggy instead of crispy.

Following these tips will help ensure that your leftover fried chicken remains as close to its original state as possible – crispy on the outside and tender on the inside! Enjoy your meal!
