When it comes to skiing in Europe, the continent’s vast and varied terrain provides a plethora of destinations for winter sports enthusiasts. With each new season, there are different resorts that stand out amongst their peers. The year 2024 is no exception, with several ski resorts gaining recognition for their exceptional conditions, facilities, and unique experiences. Below is a list of the best ski resorts in Europe for 2024 that offers something special to every skier or snowboarder out there.

1. Zermatt, Switzerland – Nestled in the shadow of the iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt remains a top choice for its breathtaking scenery and high-quality slopes. The resort boasts extensive skiing both on-piste and off-piste with year-round availability thanks to the Theodul Glacier.

2. Val d’Isère/Tignes, France – Often referred to as Espace Killy, the combined area of Val d’Isère and Tignes offers a massive network of lifts and slopes suitable for all levels. The resorts are particularly noted for their high altitude skiing, reliable snow cover, and vibrant apres-ski scene.

3. St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria – Known for its challenging runs and deep powder snow, St. Anton am Arlberg continues to be a favorite among expert skiers seeking adventure. Its lively atmosphere and rustic mountain charm also make it a hotspot for nightlife.

4. Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy – This Italian gem in the Dolomites is famous not only for its super-groomed pistes but also its stunning surroundings that have earned it the nickname ‘Queen of the Dolomites’. It’s also part of the Dolomiti Superski, one of the world’s largest ski circuits.

5. Verbier, Switzerland – A mecca for freeride skiing with extensive off-piste opportunities across its diverse terrain makes Verbier an enduring favorite. With its upmarket feel and variety of sophisticated dining options and accommodations, it appeals to a luxury-seeking crowd.

6. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France – Hosting some of Europe’s most demanding pistes like the famed Vallée Blanche, Chamonix attracts those looking for extreme skiing coupled with charming French culture.

7. Åre, Sweden – Scandinavia’s leading mountain resort stands out with its family-friendly atmosphere and diverse runs ranging from easy greens to challenging blacks. It’s an excellent choice for those who prefer quieter slopes.

8. Baqueira Beret, Spain – Spain may not be the first country that comes to mind for skiing, but Baqueira Beret is exceptional with quality snow conditions on uncrowded slopes situated in the heart of the Pyrenees.

9. Levi, Finland – As one of Finland’s best-known ski destinations in Lapland, Levi offers an enchanting winter experience with guaranteed snow during the season and possibilities to see the Northern Lights.

10. Kitzbühel, Austria – Combining tradition with modern lift infrastructure and 170 kilometers of varied slopes make Kitzbühel another top contender this year alongside famous races like the Hahnenkammrennen which attract many visitors annually.

These ski resorts demonstrate just how diverse European skiing can be—with each offering their own unique draw whether it’s luxury amenities, historic atmospheres or family-friendly environments. With cutting-edge facilities and expansive terrains tailored to every level of skier or snowboarder out there—the 2024 season is looking exceptionally promising for those keen on carving up some of Europe’s finest snow-covered mountainsides.
