As society becomes more accepting of the LGTBQ community, it is not surprising that more movies showcasing their stories and struggles are being made available. Thankfully for those looking for quality LGBT representation, Netflix has got us covered. Whether you’re looking to watch a romantic drama or a tell-all documentary, Netflix has a plethora of LGBT content to choose from. In this article, we compile a list of the best LGBT movies on Netflix right now in April 2023 to keep you company during your movie nights.

  1. Carol

Starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, Carol is a stunning masterpiece that tells the story of a young photographer who falls in love with an older woman in the 1950s. Set amidst a backdrop of conservative society norms, the film excellently captures the struggles of same-sex relationships during that period. Carol is a must-watch for anyone who loves a slow-burning love story with stunning cinematography.

  1. Moonlight

The winner of the 2017 Academy Award for Best Picture, Moonlight is a masterful coming-of-age drama that explores what it means to be Black and gay in the United States. The film takes a deep dive into the life of a young African-American man named Chiron as he navigates the challenges of growing up in a rough neighborhood while grappling with his sexuality. Moonlight is a poignant and powerful film that is beautifully directed and features an excellent cast.

  1. The Half of It

The Half of It tells the story of Ellie Chu, a smart and introverted high school student who gets paid to write essays and letters for her classmates. When a jock hires Ellie to write love letters to his crush, Ellie falls in love with the girl herself. The film is a beautiful exploration of self-discovery and the complexities of teenage life. The Half of It is an honest and heartfelt film that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

  1. The Boys in the Band

Based on the off-Broadway play of the same name, The Boys in the Band is a powerful film that explores the lives of nine gay men as they gather for a birthday party. The film celebrates the queer experience while also highlighting the nuances of each character. With excellent performances from the all-star cast, The Boys in the Band is a must-watch film that showcases the beauty of queer relationships and friendships.

  1. Disclosure

Disclosure is a critically acclaimed documentary that explores the representation of transgender people in film and television. Featuring interviews with prominent trans figures, the documentary tackles issues such as misrepresentation, lack of trans actors, and the damaging effects of negative stereotypes. Disclosure is a powerful and necessary film that sheds light on an important issue and is a must-watch for anyone looking to better understand the struggles of the trans community.

In conclusion, Netflix has provided an excellent array of quality movies that tell diverse and beautiful stories of the LGBT community.
