Virginia is home to some truly exceptional golf courses that offer both challenging play for golf enthusiasts and stunning vistas for lovers of natural beauty. Below is a curated list of what many agree are the best golf courses in Virginia.

1.Kinloch Golf Club, Manakin-Sabot

Considered by many to be a masterpiece, this Lester George and Vinny Giles design is exclusive and offers a pure golfing experience with no homes bordering the course. It’s a par-72 layout with numerous elevation changes and meticulously maintained conditions.

2.The Olde Farm Club, Bristol

With its roots deep in the colonial history of Virginia, The Olde Farm is laid out on hilly terrain and designed by Bobby Weed with consultation from PGA Tour player Curtis Strange. This club values tradition and offers a spectacular variety of holes.

3.Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Gainesville

Hosting four Presidents Cup tournaments isn’t this course’s only claim to fame. It provides a test for the best players in the world while still being enjoyable for regular members. Located along Lake Manassas, the views are as compelling as the golf.

4.The Highland Course at Primland, Meadows of Dan

Situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, The Highland Course offers breathtaking scenic vistas from every hole. Designed by Donald Steel, it presents challenges to all levels of players and is deeply respectful of the natural landscape.

5.Trump National Golf Club, Potomac Falls

Melding into the Potomac River’s natural terrain, this Tom Fazio-designed course has more than 800 acres along two miles of riverfront. Both scenic and challenging, this club offers two championship-style courses that impress every level of golfer.

6.Bayville Golf Club, Virginia Beach

This semi-private club was designed by Pete Dye and is known for its beautiful landscaping and pristine conditions. Its picturesque setting boasts age-old oak trees and abuts the Lynnhaven River, providing an idyllic backdrop for golfers.

7.Full Cry at Keswick Golf Club, Keswick

Pete Dye designed yet another gem with Full Cry at Keswick Hall which blends beautifully into the Virginia landscape near Charlottesville. It’s playable for all skill levels but don’t be deceived; strategy here is key to getting around well.

8.Cascades Course at The Omni Homestead Resort, Hot Springs

A timeless classic from William S. Flynn, this course has seen many legends walk its fairways throughout history since opening in 1923. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, it combines history with exceptional golf.

Virginia’s tapestry of rolling hills, coastal planes, and mountainous regions make it a unique state for some of the most picturesque and varied golf experiences in America. These top courses are must-visits for any serious golfer or even those looking to play amid some of Virginia’s most beautiful landscapes. Whether seeking lush greenery amidst historical settings or modern design that tests their mettle against the greats of the game, Virginia’s best golf courses provide something for every golfer to relish.
