The BEST Crockpot Pot Roast Recipe

In the world of comfort food, the pot roast reigns supreme. But this isn’t just any pot roast – this is the BEST Crockpot Pot Roast that is guaranteed to be a showstopper at your family dinner table. Imagine tender, fall-apart beef that has been slowly simmered in a rich and hearty sauce, with vegetables that have absorbed all the flavors to become mouthwateringly succulent.

What’s the secret to making the best pot roast in your crockpot? It’s all about the right ingredients and patience—letting that slow cooker do its magic. So, let’s get right into how you can create this culinary masterpiece in your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

– 4-5 pound chuck roast

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– Salt and pepper to taste

– 1 packet of dry onion soup mix

– 1 cup beef broth

– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 4-5 large carrots, peeled and cut into large chunks

– 4 potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks

– 1 onion, peeled and chopped

– Fresh herbs (optional) such as rosemary or thyme for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Season your chuck roast generously with salt and pepper on all sides. In a skillet over high heat, add olive oil and sear the roast until it has a golden-brown crust on both sides. This step adds a depth of flavor that’s crucial for your pot roast.
  2. Place the seared roast into your crockpot.
  3. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the roast. Then pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce around it. Sprinkle garlic powder evenly on top.
  4. Place carrots, potatoes, and onion around and on top of the roast. These vegetables will cook in the juices of the meat, absorbing all that savory flavor.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 5-6 hours until both meat and vegetables are tender.
  6. Once cooked, remove the pot roast and vegetables from the crockpot carefully with tongs and a slotted spoon. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  7. If desired, skim off any fat from the juices left in the pot to make a gravy or simply use them as they are for an au jus.
  8. To serve, slice against the grain of your pot roast for maximum tenderness, accompany it with vegetables, and drizzle over some of your cooking juices.
  9. Garnish with fresh herbs if you chose to enhance those flavors further.
