For many travelers, an airport can make or break the start and end of a journey. North America has a wide range of airports, from ultra-modern hubs to those in desperate need of an update. We delve into some of the best and worst airports across the continent, considering factors such as cleanliness, amenities, efficiency of security, and overall traveler experience.

BEST AIRPORTS:

1. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) – Canada

YVR tops the list with its stunning architecture, indigenous art exhibits, and a high level of customer service. It’s known for its efficiency, clean environment, and the ease with which travelers can navigate through immigration and customs.

2. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) – USA

Despite being one of the busiest in the world, ATL has managed to maintain a reputation for efficiency. Its terminal layout allows for easy transfers and its dining options are celebrated for their variety and quality.

3. Denver International Airport (DEN) – USA

The design and aesthetics here set it apart, with an iconic tent-like roof structure representing snow-capped mountains. DEN is praised for its commitment to sustainability as well as its spacious concourses.

WORST AIRPORTS:

1. LaGuardia Airport (LGA) – USA

Often cited by travelers for criticism, LGA suffers from outdated infrastructure, frequent delays, and a lack of amenities. However, it’s currently undergoing a massive redevelopment project aimed at transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility by 2022.

2. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – USA

Long waits at security checkpoints and customs lines are common complaints about EWR. The airport also often faces criticism for being dirty and having unwelcoming staff.

3. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) – USA

Despite being the main airport for a major city, LAX is often chastised for its aging facilities and confusing layout. It’s also known for heavy traffic congestion leading to the terminals and long walks between gates.

CONCLUSION

Among North American airports, there are leaders that showcase efficiency and innovation while others lag behind significantly in terms of traveler satisfaction. The good news is that improvements are being made in many airports around North America to ensure that traveling through them becomes part of a positive journey.
