Eating the right kind of snack before bed can promote better sleep and prevent overnight hunger. The key is choosing snacks that are rich in nutrients that help in promoting relaxation and contain an appropriate amount of calories. Here are the 14 absolute best snacks to eat before bed:

1. Cherries – Naturally rich in melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleepiness, cherries are a perfect pre-bedtime snack.

2. Almonds – With both protein and magnesium, which may help to improve sleep quality, a small handful of almonds is a great option.

3. Greek Yogurt – High in protein and calcium, Greek yogurt can satisfy nighttime hunger and potentially promote better sleep patterns.

4. Banana with Almond Butter – This combination gives you both the tryptophan from bananas and the magnesium from almond butter, aiding in relaxation.

5. Whole Grain Crackers with Cheese – The carbs will raise your serotonin levels without spiking blood sugar, while cheese provides satiating protein.

6. Cottage Cheese with Raspberries – Cottage cheese is high in casein protein for sustained amino acid release overnight, and raspberries add fiber.

7. Kiwifruit – Eating kiwifruit before bed could result in better sleep due to its serotonin content.

8. Walnuts – Another excellent source of melatonin and omega-3 fatty acids which could also contribute to a more restful night’s sleep.

9. Oatmeal with Milk – A small bowl is enough to provide comforting warmth and a boost in melatonin from the milk.

10. Dark Chocolate – Rich in flavonoids with potential benefits for heart health, choose dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa for less sugar content.

11. Pumpkin Seeds – These seeds are packed with magnesium, which may assist in improving sleep quality.

12. Hard-boiled Egg – As a low-calorie source of protein, it can stave off hunger pangs throughout the night.

13. Avocado Toast on Whole Grain Bread – The healthy fats in avocado paired with complex carbs make for a filling and nutritious choice.

14. Chamomile Tea & Honey – While not technically a snack, this calming beverage can soothe you into a sleepy state when paired with a teaspoon of honey.

Remember to keep portions small as eating too much before bed can disrupt your sleep. Incorporating these snacks into your nightly routine might help you drift off to dreamland while keeping midnight cravings at bay.
