There are as many proponents of smartwatches for children as there are opponents to the idea of children wearing technology on their wrists. Whatever side of the fence you are on, take a moment to find out with us just how amazing these devices can be.

VTech Kidizoom Kids Smartwatch DX2 – Age 4-9

The VTech Kidizoom Kids Smartwatch DX is an award-winning product that functions as a smartwatch and features an alarm, a stopwatch, a calendar and a calculator. The device features two cameras that allow children to take pictures, action video and selfies.

Children can choose between 55 digital and analog watch faces or customize their watch face with their own pictures and selfies. A great feature is the different watch displays kids can use: there are three-dimensional, analog, and digital watch displays.

The watch houses a range of popular games including an augmented reality monster catching game. A main feature of this smartwatch is the large number of educational games it offers.  The watch displays can also help young children to tell the time. The watch is splash proof but not waterproof.

Kurio Watch – Age 9 and older

This smartwatch is a Bluetooth-enabled device for older children. Children can send messages and make and receive calls.  It comes with a range of games, including multi-player games. Children can take photos and selfies. The watch comes with interchangeable wristbands.

Other features include an activity tracker, an alarm clock, calculator and calendar. The watch also has a built-in motion sensor for playing active games.

Garmin Vívofit Jr – Age 4 and older

The Garmin Vivofit Jr is first and foremost a fitness and activity tracker, but this smartwatch also comes with a range of educational games. It’s designed with kids in mind with each watch featuring a popular movie or a cartoon. There are loads to choose from including Batman, Disney, and Star Wars. A special feature is the ability for parents to set goals for their children and then receive notices on whether their child achieved those goals.

LG GizmoPal – Age 4 – 10

The LG GizmoPal is a safe smartwatch for kids. It features real-time GPS location tracking and two-way communication, so parents can always know where their children are and always be in contact. Safety is enhanced by limiting the phone numbers on the phone. A child can call and receive calls from up to four authorized phone numbers. It’s easy for young children to use. When it rings, n automated voice tells the child who’s calling.

The watch connects to the parent’s Android or iOS smartphone through the GizmoHub app, but it works only with a Verizon cellular connection. Another safety feature of this watch is the real-time GPS tracking that comes with GEO fencing that limits the child’s movements. As soon as the child crosses the set boundary, a notification will be sent to a parent’s phone.

Explora 3S – Age 5 -13

This smartwatch is waterproof and has a camera for shooting stills, but its most outstanding feature is that it can be used to make and receive calls and messages. The watch also includes an alarm clock, a pedometer, and a stopwatch. This watch doubles up as a phone so parents and their children can stay in touch. The parent controls the contact list from an app on the parent’s phone.

The Norwegian company that produces the Explora 3S, sees safety as its prime concern. Parents can, from the app on their own smartphone, set their child’s school times during which the watch will not be available for games or other distractions. Emergency calls can be made, though. The watch has an encrypted GPS tracker. There’s a button on the watch that a child can press when they feel they are in danger and the parent will receive a very loud siren sound on their watch. Another safety feature is the safety zones that parents can set up. If the child leaves the zone, the parent will be alerted.

Orbo Kids Smartwatch – Age 3 -8

The Orbo Kids SmartWatch is a great watch to help your child to learn about telling time.  The watch has a simple tap feature that teaches children to read the time by letting the time master read out the time aloud.

The watch has an interactive touch screen that provides children with hours of entertainment with its touchscreen. The watch also features a built-in rotating camera and children can save their photos on the watch. The Orbo smartwatch features 16 learning and fun activities.

Omate x Nanoblock – Age – 4 and older

Omate X Nanoblock comes with a unique band that looks like Lego, which children can customize to their liking. The watch allows two-way video and voice calling and supports GPS tracking so parents can keep an eye on their children. The watch also features a pedometer, an alarm, and front selfie camera as well as an SOS alert mode.

Huami Amazfit Bip for teenagers

Reviewers rave about this smartwatch which has an amazing range of features, yet is very affordable, costing less than $100. The watch keeps its wearer up to date on world news, weather forecast and social media. It can receive messages, calls, notifications, and social media alerts. The waterproof device has a scratch-resistant and trans-reflective screen and contains a barometer, a heart rate sensor, and advanced location tracking capabilities. Another outstanding feature is the battery charging – you only need to charge it for 3 hours and it will work for almost 30 days.

Tencent QQWatch – Age – 4 to 10

The Tencent QQWatch is a GPS-enabled smartwatch that allows parents to track their children. The watch comes with an SOS feature that sends emergency messages to emergency contacts. Parents can add 5 family contacts and 16 friends to their child’s contact list. The watch has a wide range of features allowing text and voice messages and group chats. Kids can take pictures, set the alarm, use the pedometer and learn about the weather. The watch also features a class mode.
