Isaach de Bankolé, a distinguished Ivorian actor, has a rich tapestry of film roles under his belt. Here are ten of his best movies that have captivated audiences worldwide:

.Night on Earth (1991) – This anthology of short films directed by Jim Jarmusch showcases de Bankolé’s talent in the segment set in Paris, where he plays a blind passenger engaging in a profound conversation with the driver.

.Casino Royale (2006) – In this James Bond installment, Isaach de Bankolé portrays Steven Obanno, one of Le Chiffre’s clients. Despite limited screen time, his performance leaves a memorable mark on the film’s dark and intense atmosphere.

.Black Panther (2018) – De Bankolé plays the elder of the River Tribe in Marvel’s groundbreaking superhero film. His presence contributes to the vibrant, multicultural tapestry that is the nation of Wakanda.

.The Limits of Control (2009) – Reuniting with director Jim Jarmusch, de Bankolé leads as a mysterious lone man on a criminal mission through Spain. His cool demeanor and minimalist dialogue make his performance mesmerising.

.Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) – Another collaboration with Jarmusch casts him as Raymond, a French-speaking ice cream vendor and one of Ghost Dog’s only friends – a part that provides subtle comic relief.

.Manderlay (2005) – In Lars von Trier’s provocative film exploring America’s troubled history with slavery, de Bankolé gives a powerful performance as Timothy, displaying a complex blend of defiance and vulnerability.

.Chocolat (1988) – Not to be confused with the 2000 romantic-drama, this earlier film by Claire Denis is where de Bankolé got his break. He captures audiences as Protée, a houseboy during colonial times who experiences unspoken tensions with his French employers.

.Otomo (1999) – This German drama based on true events features de Bankolé in the title role as an African immigrant confronting racism and alienation in Germany until circumstances spiral tragically out of control.

.The Keeper (1995) – Assuming the lead role as an innocent immigrant wrongly accused of committing crimes, de Bankolé delivers an arresting portrayal showcasing desperation and resilience against injustice within the legal system.

.White Material (2009) – In another collaboration with Claire Denis, he plays Boxer, an injured rebel leader in an unnamed African country torn by civil war. His character provides a critical perspective on colonial legacy and conflict resolution.

Isaach de Bankolé’s versatility as an actor is evident in these roles that span multiple genres and cultural narratives; each one standing strong as testaments to his talent and ability to bring depth to diverse characters.
