Tell HN: The Wayback Machine is up, in read-only mode

After a brief hiatus, the internet’s most beloved time machine, the Wayback Machine, is back online! While the service is currently operating in read-only mode, you can still explore the vast archive of captured websites, articles, and digital artifacts from throughout history.

This news comes as a relief to researchers, historians, and anyone who has ever wanted to revisit a website from the past. The Wayback Machine serves as an invaluable resource for documenting the evolution of the internet, capturing moments in time, and understanding the digital landscape of yesteryear.

The read-only mode allows users to access the existing archive, but it currently prevents new websites from being captured. While the exact reason for the downtime and the timeline for resuming full functionality remain unclear, it’s reassuring to know that the Wayback Machine is back, albeit in a limited capacity.

This comeback offers a chance to reminisce, explore, and perhaps even learn a thing or two about the history of the internet. So, take a trip down memory lane and discover the fascinating world of websites past. As the Wayback Machine team works to restore full functionality, we can look forward to an even richer and more complete historical record of the digital world.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
