Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is a stable and powerful video editing tool that has advanced features for professional videographers. One of the unique features it offers is the ability to speed up or slow down video clips. This can be a great way to create dramatic effects, add emphasis, or make a video more interesting.

Speeding up or slowing down a video clip can be a simple and easy way to enhance the style and quality of the video. For example, a time-lapse clip can be made by speeding up the video, or a slow-motion segment can be created by slowing it down.

In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to speed up or slow down video clips with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.

How to Speed Up a Video Clip

Step 1: Open the video file or create a new project in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.

Step 2: Drag the video clip from the Project panel to the Timeline panel.

Step 3: Right-click the video clip in the timeline and select Speed/Duration.

Step 4: In the Speed/Duration dialog box, enter a new percentage value in the Speed field to increase the speed of the clip. For example, if you enter 200%, the clip will play at double the speed.

Step 5: Click OK to apply the change and close the dialog box.

How to Slow Down a Video Clip

Step 1: Open the video file or create a new project in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.

Step 2: Drag the video clip from the Project panel to the Timeline panel.

Step 3: Right-click the video clip in the timeline and select Speed/Duration.

Step 4: In the Speed/Duration dialog box, enter a new percentage value in the Speed field to decrease the speed of the clip. For example, if you enter 50%, the clip will play at half the speed.

Step 5: Click OK to apply the change and close the dialog box.

Tips for Speeding Up or Slowing Down Video Clips

Here are a few tips that you can use to make your video edits with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 more effective.

– Avoid extreme changes:

Although it is possible to change video clips’ speed dramatically, it is best not to extend it more than 400%. Extreme changes can make the video feel unnatural, jarring or jerky.

– Use keyframes:

When using speed changes to create dynamic effects, it is best to use keyframes to make the transition smooth. Use keyframes to gradually increase or decrease the video’s speed to make the effect more natural.

– Keep audio in mind:

Changing the video clip’s speed may also affect the audio’s pitch and tempo. You need to select an audio time-stretching option that matches your intended effect to make the audio sound natural with the modified video.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Adobe Premiere Pro offers many great features for professional video editors, and the ability to speed up or slow down a video clip is one of its unique features. This feature can be used to create time-lapse videos, slow-motion effects or add emphasis to a particular segment of the video. By following the simple steps explained above, you can use this feature to create more engaging and professional video edits.
