Simple Ways to Call Greece: 9 Steps

When planning to call Greece from abroad, you may experience some difficulties that can make connecting with friends, family, or business partners feel like a daunting task. To help smooth the process, we’ve compiled nine simple steps to connect with those in Greece without hassle.

1. Find a reliable phone service: Before attempting to make an international call, ensure that your phone service provider supports international calls. This can be as simple as checking their website or contacting customer service. Some providers may require you to activate an international calling plan.

2. Know the time difference: Greece is on Eastern European Time (EET). Calculate the time difference between your location and Greece before you make a call. This is crucial when calling friends and family to avoid catching them at an inconvenient time.

3. Dial the exit code: For international calls, you will need to dial an exit code to leave your country’s telephone network. The exit code varies from country to country but is generally 00 or 011 for most countries.

4. Dial Greece’s country code: After dialing your exit code, dial the country code for Greece, which is +30.

5. Dial the area code: Each region in Greece has an area code. This is a two- or three-digit number that must be dialed before entering the local phone number. Some popular area codes include Athens (21), Thessaloniki (231), and Crete (281).

6. Dial the local number: After entering the area code, dial the local number which consists of seven digits.

7. Consider using alternative methods: If you’re having difficulties with traditional phone service or are concerned about call charges, consider alternatives like Skype, Viber, WhatsApp, or other internet-based calling applications as long as you have a stable internet connection.

8. Keep track of call costs: International calls can often be costly affairs. Make sure you’re keeping a tab on how much your phone provider charges for international calls to Greece. It may be worth exploring options such as prepaid calling cards or VoIP services that can offer a more cost-effective solution.

9. Stay patient: When making international calls, there can occasionally be delays, echo, or poor voice quality due to various factors. Remain patient and speak slowly, clearly, and loudly so the person on the other end can understand you well.

By following these nine simple steps, calling Greece should become an easier and more enjoyable experience. Happy dialing!
