Share The Research Behind Edtech

Edtech is a prevalent tool used in many modern classrooms all over the world. Teachers rely more and more on technology to create a deeper understanding of work in their lessons. 

There is plenty of evidence that suggests that edtech is helpful when used correctly. This article will discuss the research that goes into designing and creating a successful and useful edtech tool.

What Do The Students Need Help With?

The first thing that all designers look into when creating a new edtech tool is who the product is for and what they need help with. 

For example, if the designer is looking to make a tool that will be useful in a Mathematics class, they should investigate what the most significant need in a math class is. Does the tool make it easier to draw graphs? Will it be able to quickly solve algebraic equations that cannot be inputted into a calculator? These are all questions that the designer will need to ask themselves. 

One big issue that an edtech tool has tackled is the lack of communication and collaboration between students that study online. Pedagogue is a new and innovative app that allows peers and classmates to work together by sharing materials and ideas. This app is a social learning management system that can be used by both students and teachers to organize, manage, and share work. What Format Do Students Respond Best To?

There are various types of learning formats out there that each suit different students. For example, some students prefer learning through videos or images, while others learn better when taught verbally. 

The edtech designer will need to consider what format their tool will use when teaching students. With that being said, some educational tools, such as Pedagogue, aren’t even used to directly teach the students, meaning that format will not be an issue.

How Easy Is It To Use The Tool?

An edtech tool will only be popular if it is easy to use and convenient for the teacher. Even though many schools ensure that educators understand how technology works by offering edtech coaching, it will still be a big issue if the product is overly confusing and difficult to use. 

For this reason, designers will need to keep convenience and usability in mind when working on their new edtech tools. 

Concluding Thoughts

Edtech is becoming an increasingly important part of modern-day education. With that being said, plenty of research needs to happen for a new edtech tool to be successful and useful. 

Designers should start by understanding who they are making the product for and what their needs will be. If the tool is used to teach the students directly, they should then decide what format will be. Lastly, the designer will need to think about convenience and usability when working on their product.
